mk-drive is a self-hosted web drive with an iPhone app. This page answers the questions that come up most; for anything else, the address is at the bottom.

Signing in on the iPhone

You need three things: the address of your drive, the email of your account there, and either your password or single sign-on.

• Enter the address as you would in a browser, for example https://drive.example.com. The app checks that a drive answers there.
• Email and password: sign in once, and the app asks the drive for an app password named after your phone. From then on the phone uses that; your real password is never stored on it.
• Sign in with…: if your drive offers single sign-on, the button opens the provider in a secure sheet and comes back with an app password the same way.

If the sign-in page says password sign-in is not offered from this network, the drive's operator has limited passwords to the home network. Use single sign-on, or sign in from home once.

The Files app

After signing in, your drive appears in the Files app under Locations. Browse, open, move and rename files there as with any other location; other apps can open and save files on the drive through it. Large uploads continue in the background and resume after the connection drops.

Sharing

Share a file or a folder from the app to get a link; add a password or an expiry if you want them. Everything shared from this phone is listed under Settings, Links on the drive, where a link can be removed at any time. Files shared to the app from other apps land on a Save to the drive page, where you choose the folder.

Signing out and removing the phone

Sign out in the app to forget the drive on this phone. To cut off a phone you no longer have, sign in to the drive in a browser and revoke it under Settings, Devices. Deleting the app removes everything it kept on the phone.

Something is wrong

• The app cannot reach the drive but a browser can: check that the address has the right scheme and no path after the host, and that the drive answers over HTTPS. A drive on a plain http:// address on the home network works too, but only while the phone is on that network.
• Wrong email or password: the drive counts attempts and asks you to wait a moment after a few wrong ones. The password that works in a browser is the one to use.
• A file will not upload: the drive refuses files whose name starts with a dot, and folders you have read-only access to. The error says which.
